Shortly after arriving from Mexico in 1989, Edith and Geoff Hartney established their fledgling importing business. Now Wholesale Mexican Handcrafts Pty Ltd has an Australian wide clientele and exports to Papua New Guinea, New Zealand and New Caledonia from its large warehouse and showroom at Coopers Plains in Brisbane. While Edith and Geoff needed to develop the business when they arrived in Australia to support themselves and their two young children, Edith was motivated to start the business as a means of retaining her links with Mexico. Through their understanding of the background to the products they sell, they make the products live for the buyer. The business now caters to several different markets including giftware shops, nurseries, decorator shops, interior decorators, restaurants, and collectors.
